Stone Floor Polishing
Marble and Stone Floor Polishing
Polishing marble and stone floors involves lightly grinding the floor using a light abrasive. This will remove light scratches, worn areas and etching (dull marks) from the surface of the marble tiles. The whole floor is then polished using our wet diamond-polishing compound, which will return a natural gloss to the marble floor (without the use of waxes). Without the use of a light abrasive any polishing compound only smoothes out the scratches on the surface of the tiles, improving them only slightly. This is why we insist on using the light abrasive prior to the diamond-polishing compound and we complete the grinding using a dustless system so it is nice and clean. Polishing brings the natural reflection on the tiles back to approximately 90% of a new tile. We can also scrub clean the grout joints but unless stated in the pricing this will be an extra cost.
If there are any large or deep scratches in the surface of any tiles that are of a concern to you we can resurface these individually for you at an extra charge.
Benefits:
- Removes small scratches and etches from the surface in the grinding process.
- Returns a natural high gloss to the dull and dirty surface again.
- The area will be easier to keep clean.
- We give you a natural glossy finish without the use of waxes.
- Area will be longer lasting than waxy finishes.
Resurfacing Marble and Stone Floors - Polished
To resurface the marble floor we use diamond-impregnated pads with special wet polishing machines. The procedure involves the grinding of the marble to remove all lippage, working up through a number of grits to a final polish. The whole floor is then polished using our wet diamond-polishing compound, which will return a natural high-gloss to the marble floor (without the use of waxes). Adjacent carpets, walls and cupboards are masked off so that water-based slurry produced by the polishing machines does not damage those areas. Before the polishing process commences the grout is removed and replaced. This therefore allows the floor to be completed with the grout being flush with the top of the tiles. The result of this process brings the marble floor to better than original without lippage and prominent grout lines.
Benefits:
- Removes all scratches, etching and dull areas.
- Returns a brand new natural high gloss to the surface again.
- The area will be easier to keep clean.
- No prominent grout lines, as they become level with the surface of the tiles.
- We give you a natural glossy finish without the use of waxes.
- The stone floor is returned to a better than new floor.
Resurfacing Marble and Stone Floors - Honed
To resurface the marble floor we use diamond-impregnated pads with special wet polishing machines. The procedure involves the grinding of the marble to remove all lippage, working up through a number of grits to a honed polish.
Benefits:
- Removes all scratches, stains and dull areas.
- Returns a brand new natural honed finish to the surface again.
- The area will be easier to keep clean.
- No prominent grout lines, as they become level with the surface of the tiles.
- Tile floor is returned to a better than new floor.
Honing Marble and Stone Floors
To hone the surface of the limestone tiles we use a special diamond honing paste with rotary floor scrubbers. The paste will abrade the surface of the stone until it is a uniform honed finish. This material is a vast improvement on older processes in which diamond abrasive pads would have to be used. The process is dust free with all areas thoroughly clean after completion. Some stones will show texture difference in their surface due their sedimentary composition. We recommend sealing after the honing process is complete.
Benefits:
- Clean and dust free process
- Creates a uniform honed finish
Removing Excess Grout Haze (Removing grout residue)
Polishing the marble floors to remove grout residue or haze involves using a light abrasive on the surface of the tiles. This removes the dull areas (dull marks) on the surface of the tiles as well as excess grout. We then use a diamond-cutting compound on the surface of the tiles to remove small swirl marks left from our polish abrasive. The floor is then cleaned using a special detergent, which will return the tiles surface to approximately 98% of a new tile.
Benefits:
- Removes etching and excess grout off the surface in the grinding process.
- Returns a natural gloss to the dull and etched surface again.
- We give you a natural glossy reflection without the use of waxes.
